There are some things that I never want to forget, “Mommy, for you” is one of them. Dylan is now a little over 2 and the things he says amaze me everyday. He has started putting together 3 and 4 word sentences in the past month or so and I just can’t believe how much his vocabulary has grown. Some of the things he says are pretty demanding “C’mon!” as his little head peeks around his bedroom door, or “Sit Down!” usually because he wants you to read him a book. But this one, “Mommy, for you” just melts my heart every time. I am not exactly sure where he got this from, but I am so happy he picked it up.
Every night after his bath Dylan lays on the living room floor on his pillow and watches TV until its time for bed. Usually once he was tired he would get up and crawl into my lap on the couch for a few minutes before it was time for “night night” (yes, he asks for it, and after hearing so many bedtime horror stories I realize how blessed we are to have a toddler that likes bedtime). Just recently instead of coming to me, he popped up, patted the side of his pillow, and said “Mommy, for you”. Way to pull on the heart strings kid, you got it! There I was, laying on the floor loving his new phrase.
“Mommy, for you” has continued as one of his phrases, and each and every time it is the sweetest thing I have heard all day. This phrase comes when he wants you to be with him, whether it is to sit on the floor and play, or lay and watch a movie. He also says “Daddy, for you”, and I’m not going to lie, I get a little jealous, but still love every second watching his dad melt in his tiny hands.
Sometimes as parents we get so tied up with work, house upkeep, and everyday life that we really just need to stop and hear “for you”. To enjoy the little moments of watching a movie, playing cars, or reading a book. Right now this is all he wants and I want to make sure that I am there as much as I can to give it to him. “Mommy, for you” stops me in my tracks, no matter what I am doing, it can wait. Thanks for the reminder Dylan, I needed it.
